+ Register as a Dentist

The Bahamas Dental Act in Section states:

1. (1) Subject to the provisions of this Act, any person who satisfies the Council that-

(a) he can read, write, speak and understand the English Language;

(b) that he is qualified to be registered; and

(c) that he is a fit and proper person to practice dentistry in The Bahamas,

is entitled upon compliance with the requirements of the Act and on payment of the prescribed fee, to be registered as a dentist.

(2) A person is qualified to be registered as a dentist under subsection (1) if he holds a diploma, degree, fellowship, membership, licence, certificate or other status or form ofrecognition granted by a University, College or Body empowered to confer authority to practice dentistry by the law of the country or territory where it is granted and which in the opinion of the Council is evidence of satisfactory dental training.

(3) An applicant for registration shall furnish to the Council-

(a) evidence of his qualifications;

(b) proof of his identity;

(c) such further or other information as the Council requires in respect of the matters specified in paragraphs (a), (b) and (c) of subsection (1).

Registration is one time and the fee after approval is as follows:

• Registration under Section 10 (Dentist) $200.00

REGISTRATION AS A NON-NATIONAL

All non-nationals wishing to work in The Bahamas must have one of the following:

1. WORK PERMIT

Granted by the Bahamas Department of Immigration. The Department of Immigration states that all Non-Bahamian nationals who are desirous of working and living in The Bahamas for a period greater than 90 days, must first be authorized to do so by way of a valid work permit issued by the Department of Immigration. Persons wishing to work for up to 90 days must apply for a short term work permit. (See website)

1. GOVERNMENT CONTRACT

According to the Bahamas Department of Immigration, The government of The Bahamas may directly employ non-Bahamian nationals on contract to work within various ministries. Representatives from the various government ministries must submit applications on behalf of said individuals and their accompanying dependents for status as prescribed in the Statute Law of The Bahamas- Immigration Act Chapter 191- Sections 20 (1d and 1f). Once employment is obtained with either the Government of The Bahamas or a private office that will apply for a Work Permit on your behalf, the attached application must be completed and returned along with the following documents:

Copy of Birth Certificate/Passport

One (1) Passport size photograph

Notarized copies of Dental Qualifications along with current transcript

Current Registration/Licensure Certificate(s)

Evidence of successful completion of a National or State Board (US, Canadian, United Kingdom or Jamaica)

Original Certificate of Good Standing from a relevant Dental Licensing Authority attesting to whether or not you has ever been subject of any disciplinary enquiry.

Evidence of having employment, ie. letter from employing institution confirming your offer of employment and describing the post offered to you.

Document certifying your ability to work in The Bahamas, ie. Permanent Residency Certificate,

Work Permit or evidence of having applied to the Bahamas Department of Immigration.

Four (4) references: Two (2) Professional(work experience) & Two (2) Character

Detailed Curriculum Vitae which must include full dental education and Post-Graduate Training, Post-Graduate Qualifications, Clinical Experience, Employment History and any Research Work.

+ Register as a Nurse, Hygienist or Technician

The Bahamas Dental Act in Section states:

1. (1) A person who applies to the Council to be registered as a dental nurse, dental hygienist or dental technician and who satisfies the Council that-

(a) he can read, write, speak and understand the English Language;

(b) he is qualified to be so registered; and

(c) he is a fit and proper person to practice in The Bahamas as a dental nurse, dental hygienist or dental technician as the case may be,

is entitled upon compliance with the requirements of this Act and on payment of the prescribed fee to be registered as such under this Part.

(2) For the purposes of subsection (1), a person is qualified to be registered as a dental nurse, dental hygienist or dental technician, who has completed a course of training approved by the Council.

NOTE: Registration is one time and the fee after approval is as follows:

• Registration under Section 14 (Dental Nurse, Dental Hygienist or Dental Technician) $100.00

The Bahamas Dental Act in Section states: 21 (8) Where a licence has been lost, destroyed or mutilated it may be replaced by the Council by the issue of a copy thereof upon the application of the holder of the licence and on the payment of the fee.

Replacement of Certificate fee: $50.00

The Bahamas Dental Act in Section states: 21 (9) It shall be the duty of the licensee to inform the Registrar of any changes of address.
